What is ripplefold drapery?
Ripplefold drapery is a track based heading system where the fabric is sewn to a snap carrier tape and clipped into evenly spaced carriers on a traverse rod. Instead of pleats, the panel forms a continuous soft wave from end to end. It is the cleanest, most contemporary way to hang a large drapery panel and it traverses more smoothly than a pleated heading.
What is the difference between ripplefold and wave drapery?
They describe the same look. Ripplefold is the Kirsch trademarked term for the snap tape and carrier system, while wave is the language many European hardware lines use. The fabrication method is the same: no pleats, a continuous S curve, and a track that controls the spacing.
How much fabric does ripplefold drapery take?
Fullness is set by the carrier spacing, not by a pleat calculation. We fabricate at 60, 80, 100, or 120 percent fullness. At 80 percent fullness, a panel finishes at roughly 1.8 times the rod width, so a 120 inch rod needs about 216 inches of finished panel width before hems and returns.
Does ripplefold drapery require special hardware?
Yes. Ripplefold requires a traverse rod or track with snap carriers set to the fullness you specify. It cannot be hung on rings or a decorative pole. We specify compatible Kirsch, Rowley, and Orion systems with the order so the carrier spacing matches the fabricated panel.
